1. Don’t try to pee outdoors!
You decide to take a stroll through the beautiful surrounding vineyards, fields and orchards, looking forward to breathe in the minty fresh air that Bora brings. But all of the sudden the unrelentless urge arrises and the call of nature can no longer be blatantly ignored. Unexperienced and unaware of potencial wind gusts and rapid wind direction you get an unpleasant surprise that turns into a life lesson. We’ve just taught you that lesson to spare you with the embaressement.
2. Don’t visit a hairdresser to get a fancy haircut.
You should definitely check the weather forecast before going to a hairdresser to get your elaborate, time-consuming hairdo. All that effort and time spent on that comfy saloon chair, gossiping about your neighbours and other people, will go down in vain the second you step out the salon’s door. Unless you were actually aiming for the grungy-punk look with tangled hair, because that’s the only haricut Bora knows how to do. Good things is, it’s free of charge!
3. You should definitely dry your clothes!
You’ve just finished your laundry and you really want your favourite dress to dry. Afterall you have that romantic date coming up in the evening and you want to look your best. Well, just hang it on a rope outside for a short time and Bora will beat any clothes dryer on the market! Oh, we just forgot the second tip in case of Bora … your hair will be messy, so all your fancy dress plans might go out through the window with that messy hairdo.
Below you have a short video of Bora wind in spring. For a full experience of this rare natural phenomena, visit us in winter time!
4. The challenge of lighting a cigarette
If you are a smoker visiting Vipava Valley on a windy day, you might be unvoluntarily enrolling in a quit-smoking-program. Any attempt to light a cigarette outdoors will end up in frustration, but looking on a bright side, this might lead you to quit smoking. An interesting fact of Bora’s existence is its influence on the behavioral traits of local smokers. They’ve all figured out a technique to light one up in any wind conditions and their habit is so strong, that they will light a cigarette this way in any weather conditions. A tell-tale sign by which you can spot them anywhere you go J.
5. Don’t open an umbrella
It’s raining and Bora is raging. Not a common occurrence, since Bora dries the atmosphere, but here and there you have a situation when rain or snow get mixed in. A customary thing to do is to open your umbrella. You’ve maybe just walked out at the calm moment, but the next second a huge gust might surprise you and your umbrella will resemble a mishaped cup or fly out of your hands towards Italy to the west.We recommend you to wear a rain coat.
6. Hold you door when your exiting car
You should definitely pay attention to wind conditions when exiting your car. A moment of carelessness and Bora will yank the door out of your hands and slam it into the car parked next to you. Go to the supermarket parking lot and observe the locals to see how they manage with hands full of shopping bags, It definitely requires some skill!
7. Enjoy the experience
The best advice we can give is that you should enjoy your experience of Bora in its full glory. It’s a rare weather phenomena which can only be experienced in a few places around the world, but nowhere so powerfull and glorious as in Vipava Valley and parts of Croatian coast. We have grown used to it through our lives and it’s a companion we welcome every time. It’s presence has given a special character to the Valley, shaped its rich wine culture, cuisine and most of all its people.
