One of the jewels of Vipava Valley is an old picturesque town of Vipava, which lies in the embrace of mighty Nanos Plateau. Great location and mild climate are some of the reasons of the town’s rich past. Its first settlers were Celts, followed by Romans who also left a lasting mark while In the following centuries, Vipava was chosen as the place for settlement by the wealthy nobility. They found peace and enjoyment here and contributed to Vipava’s development and wealth. The town is also deeply connected with the rich wine tradition of the valley with the first Slovene wine cooperative being established here. Besides rich wine culture, stunning old town centre and many cultural monuments scattered throughout the town, Vipava is also famous for its delta river spring of Vipava river, one of its kind in Europe. Because of its many bridges crossing the river, Vipava has also been dubbed »slovenian Venice«.
Not far away, on one of many vineyard covered hills, lies a village of stunning beauty – Goče. Its narrow streets surrounded by stone houses offer shelter from the famous Bora wind. The village and its winemakers have long been known for producing highest quality wine which had even been exported to the royal court in Vienna centuries ago. Once wealthy Goče’s farmers built over 70 wine cellars whose current owners love to welcome every visitor. This is a place for heart and soul! See the true colours of the valley!
Following the tour of Goče, we depart to a nearby village of Erzelj, where a delicious lunch awaits you at the Miška Tourist farm. A friendly host will prepare an array of tasty local specialties and you will also be able to indulge in premium wines which they mature in their wine cellar.
