Picturesque countryside boasting numerous caves, sinkholes and other karst natural phenomena is a perfect destination for biking tours. Winding asphalt roads are passing through vineyards where high quality wine variety – Teran, typical of the Karst region, is being produced. Moreover, the typical mild climate with karst Bora is an important factor in the maturing process of the famous Karst prosciutto.
The route will lead you from Vipava Valley along the luscious Vipavska Brda to the fortified village of Štanjel. The village is known for its narrow streets squeezing between stone houses, the Štanjel castle and the romantic Ferrari’s gardens with an oval pool and a small island where many have fallen in love. From here you continue your tour towards the quaint village of Dutovlje riding along the italian border through a countryside of a breath-taking beauty. You’ll arrive to Komen by taking a scenic road on the Karst’s edge past old vineyards, meadows and orchards. The last leg of the route will be a descent to the village of Branik passing the majestic Rihenberk castle and a short climb to Preserje before returning to Vipava Valley.
